2 cups Plain flour
3 tbsp Cocoa
1 tsp Baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup Butter, softened
1 cup Caster sugar
A Few drops of vanilla extract
3/4 cup Milk

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8in square cake pan. Line base and sides with greased parchment paper.
Sift together the first 4 ingredients into a bowl and set aside.
Put the butter and sugar in another bowl and beat with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Mix in the eggs, one at a time. Then add in the vanilla.
Mix the flour mixture and milk a little at a time, alternately into the egg mixture, mixing well after each addition. Mix in the chopped apples.
Spoon the cake mixture into the prepared pan and smooth the surface.
Bake for 45 – 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in to the center of the cake comes out clean.
Leave for 5 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, add this chocolate buttercream frosting for a special treat.
