My favorite German chocolate cake recipe

What's the best German chocolate cake recipe? There are many German chocolate cake recipes out there but this by far is one of my favorites.



It's rich, chocolaty and very simple to make.

Serve it at your next social gathering to please all the chocolate lovers in the crowd.

Even those who are not chocolate fanatics will enjoy it - if you know any of those people.

Do they really really exist?

German Chocolate Cake Ingredients:

My favorite chocolate cake recipe
1/2 cup German sweet chocolate
4 egg yolks
4 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup water
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk


Directions:

Preheat your oven to 200 degrees.

In a small saucepan, add the half cup of water and German chocolate and cook until the chocolate is completely melted.

In a large bowl combine your butter and sugar and cream them together until the mixture is fluffy and light. Add your melted chocolate, vanilla and egg yolks, all the dry ingredients and the buttermilk and incorporate fully. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form in it and fold this into the batter.

Pour the mixture equally into three round 8 inch non-stick cake pans lightly coated with baking spray.

Bake for 30 minutes or until it is firm in the middle or tip of knife comes out clean.

Cool the layers completely then frost each with this delicious coconut and pecan frosting to complete this cake.


Coconut and Pecan Frosting

1 cup sugar
1 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup butter
3 egg yolks
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped pecans

Mix the first 5 ingredients in medium saucepan. Turn heat to medium, stirring occasionally, until it is thick, about 12 minutes. Stir in coconut and pecans. Beat until frosting is of spreading consistency.

I think when I make this recipe, I'll use a chocolate fudge frosting for the sides and the coconut and pecan frosting on the top. What do you think?
