Sour Cream Chocolate Cake

Try this recipe for a sour cream chocolate cake. This easy chocolate cake recipe is so moist and delicious your family will talk about it for weeks.

As far as chocolate cakes go, this is a super moist chocolate cake recipe I have tried. The sour cream always makes a cake taste super moist and delicious.

I have also added a chocolate sour cream frosting for you to top your cake off with. It's quick and easy and will go be perfect for this cake.

I have to admit, I haven't made a lot of cakes using sour cream until lately.

I usually add a tbsp. of mayonnaise to make any cake really moist but I think I prefer using the sour cream.

It gives the cake a lot more flavor along with being super moist.

How to Make This Sour Cream Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:

Sour Cream Chocolate Cake
  • 3 square unsweetened chocolate (or 1 tbsp. cocoa plus 1 tsp. melted butter per square)
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 1/2 cups cake flour

Directions:

Put the chocolate in the measured boiling water, stirring until it is melted. Let it cool and then add the baking soda.

Beat the shortening, sugar, salt, eggs and vanilla until fluffy.

Beat in chocolate mixture and add the flour alternately with the sour cream.

Pour into a wax paper lined or greased 9x14 inch pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until it passes the "toothpick test".

Cool and add this delicious chocolate sour cream frosting.


Chocolate Sour Cream Frosting

Ingredients:

  • 1 pkg. Semi-sweet chocolate pieces
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Directions:

Melt the chocolate pieces over a pan of simmering water and then stir in sour cream.

When the cake is completely cooled you can frost your cake.

Garnish it with whipped cream and some white chocolate shavings.

Instead of using a 9x14 inch baking dish, try a loaf pan for something different. You can decorate with some whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles and a few cherries.
